We’ve finished the first month of our Tale of Four Warlords. This is the second month of our challenge and our wider discord community updates.

Update

So Month 2 has gone it has been another slow month for some of our warlords this month, Illness and work pressures really have hit some of our team hard.

If you remember from the last post, we are at 750 points or 38 PL to be completed by the 30th of September. Next month 31st of October 2019 we aim to have 1000 points or 50 PL completed this is good step and will be a really good starting force.

The Orks have been going great! I’m really enjoying painting them and for once I’m actually happy with what I’m putting out, normally I don’t like what I paint and want to change it. I’ve had that in a couple of places with the Orks but not nearly enough to be unhappy.

The method of painting I’ve got with these is fun, fast and I can be a little more slap dash which helps me get them painted without causing too much pain in my arm.

I’ve managed to finish of the 500 points from the last months and get my force up to the 750 point mark. I’m using the outrider detachment and plan is to add another one in the future. I think it’s fair to say I love the Ork buggies. My force consists of the following;

  • MekBoss Kranktoof
  • Deffkilla Wartrike
  • Kranktoof’s Nob Guard (I’m still laughing about the name)
  • Trukk
  • Boomdakka Snazzwagon
  • Kustom Boosta-Blasta
  • Megatrakk Scrapjet

I think this is quite a fun themed army so far, the Nobs have lots of war-gear on them and I had originally planned to include a painboy, which was removed for now, I still need to complete for B&C’s Waaagh but I’ve held him off for now as I wanted some more output of fire from my force. I’m thinking of adding some details like blood and gore to some of the weapons after they have been properly blooded, the Nobs had successfully killed a squad of pesky Genestealers in the last game.

Here are the models I painted this month for the Orks.

The Trukk and Kustom Boosta Blasta where a “Blast” to paint….. They really paint quickly and i’m happy with the standard for the army on the table with the intent of being played with.

Still running significantly behind the others. Nevertheless the first 500pts is painted. The plague caster is ready for the tabletop even though I will polish him up a bit.

Another 3 characters will take me up to 750pts. Some of the Deathguard characters can be a bit hit or miss but these three models I like so I didn’t convert them. I added a few nurglings to the base of the Lord if Contagion. Just added a couple of flies, tentacles to the surrounding of the Tallyman.

This is just a little test for a helmet type, the plastic is quite thick however so you get an unavoidable thick white rim at the bottom.

A helbrute and bloat drone will take me up to 1000pts so I’ll be hoping to catch up.

I had a fantastic start to this month, importing my Goliath Rockgrinder, leaving me with just 11 infantry models to paint. I slowed right down in the later half of month, working on an illustration for someone, running regularly to improve my fitness, a disaster with an eBay model and just struggling to get back in the zone with all the breaks. They look “ok” for the tabletop but I definitely want to keep working on them into next month, which could cause problems for the next 250.

I’ll just have to see how it goes, but I don’t have any more unrelated creative side projects to work on until December now so hopefully that will help.

The past couple of months have been really busy with real life which hasn’t left much time or energy for spending on anything hobby related.

Thankfully the massive work project is done and launched, and the massive home project is built (more on that soon…) and I can crack on with stuff again!

I had other plans for this month, but when it came down to it I had one day to paint what was required. So I set to it… The alarm when off at 7am and I got to work painting what will count as a Knight Commander Pask Executioner – mine will ultimately have a different name, but rules wise that is what he is.

I’d already printed out some tank guards and a dozer blade to add to it, and made some barbed wire to add to the Urban Warfare theme of my army.

Overall I am happy with how the tank came out, it was a long day of reasonably solid painting (and a fair bit of waiting for varnish to dry…) but I got there, AND managed to come in on target at 247 points. Boom.

This is how the points are scored each month as reminder from the original post.

That wraps up the second month update… We’ve had some hard times to get to where we are but most of us have now built and painted 750 points over the last 3 months, will we finish? A new post next week will be about how we did and also some of the games we’ve played!

  1. Great stuff once again guys – and awesome to see you getting the community involved via your discord. Hopefully I can join in the next one if things settle down a bit by then here, but still inspiring to see your stuff! 🙂

    1. Thanks Azazel, it has been a blast for us all to have something in a similar vein to work on and the Discord group has been amazing seeing peoples work has really inspired me to keep going and meet target.

I think we will be doing a campaign in the new year, I also would love to try and organise a kill-team build competition in the future and get as many people involved as possible too!
