We’ve finished the first month of our Tale of Four Warlords. This is going to be a multi-part post to save your faces from the immense wall of text it would be otherwise.

First up, let’s take a look at how our Warmongers armies ended this month…

Krakendoomcool: At the end of the month I did not manage to get everything painted. I built and painted as much as I could without getting a divorce. I did finish the Plague Marines and I’m still painting as much as possible to get the remaining units done.

Warbringer: I managed to miscalculate my list slightly but that didn’t matter. I managed to paint just under 500 points 430ish the gap will be filled in the next month.

I painted the following;

  • Sorcerer
  • Chaos Space Marine Squad 1
  • Chaos Space Marine Squad 2
  • Havoc Squad

Really enjoyed this month was the hardest one. I also managed to paint an Ork HQ and a Typhus for the twitter mini swap post coming.

Next month should be better as I’m writing my list and it looks like 6 models currently which will be much easier to achieve than the 16 I had this month.

Ritual: This month was a bit of a struggle at times, but I managed to get everything done that I set out to do. There was quite a lot of variety in what I painted, but I wanted to draw some themes through all of the models to make it look like a cohesive army on the table as well as in my lore.

I chose the colour themes as teal, gold and red accents and tried to include that in some way on every model.

Adeptus Mechanicus

These were one of the heavier conversions this month, and I was pretty happy with how they turned out. For the painting, my favourite part was the leather scheme I came up with – it’s quick and effective.

Planetary Defence Force

These guys also had a pretty quick scheme overall. I did spend a bit more time than intended on the Psyker – doing some TMM gold around the dress and on her chest and head piece.

The Inquisition

These were some of my favourite models to paint this month, I had great fun doing them and there will amost certainly be more in the future…

Wulfen

These girls were the worst for a while… I did the leader with clean edge highlighting and shading and then realised I needed to paint 4 more like that and hated my choices.

So after a minor meltdown, I decided to just make them grungy and grimdark and weathered and awesome.

This was a great decision, I managed to knock the other 4 out in two evenings and went back and weathered up the clean one to match.

Finally I’ll leave you with a bigger shot of my favourite model from this month, one of my Acolytes. I was particularly happy with how this model came out, I think it’s some of my best work despite only taking one evening. The use of inks over the zenithal highlight gave some awesome contrast between the shadows, and then glazing some thinned inks to give the OSL effect worked out really well.

Pandora’s Bitz Box: I managed to finish my army which I’m pretty pleased about, I was really worried about the first month as it was 500 points and I had stupidly organised to be doing too many things. Also there was the added complication of wanting to play with models that were already painted, so before I realised we actually scored points for what we painted this month, I was hoping to deduct those models off my 500 points. *sigh*

Anyway, so this is what I ended up playing with…

Since my army included models (5 Abarrents) that were already painted I didn’t think it was fair to include them if I didn’t have to paint as much as everyone else. So These were the models I painted to make up for that…

As you can see there’s already 4 Abarrents in there and then the rest. This not only pays for my pre painted unit but also has me ahead for next month which includes the Patriarch. That frees me up for some of the other neglected projects I have lined up, as with the Patriarch out of the way… that leaves me with only 1 model to paint for next month. If I have time, maybe I’ll start painting for month 3!… but that’s unlikely, I have so much to do… *sigh*

Oh actually… I forgot, I’m not quite done, you’ll see a lot of unpainted helmets and other accessories on the genestealers, but despite having played our games already, our deadline for month one isn’t for another 2 days.

I’ve got all the time in the world!

Tomorrow we’ll post an update with the games played, the results, and a final table of points for this month… To round us out for today though, let’s take a look at how our friends on the Discord server got on this month…
