IF the title didn’t give this one away I don’t know what will. My fellow bloggers and I are going to start a 40k escalation in the form of a Tale of 4 Warlords read all about it here.

Where to start, we have been discussing a few things recently, Tale of Four Warlords being one of them. We had originally considered Age of Sigmar as the game system however many of us have 40k armies that either need expanding or are about to start work on so that was felt to be the right system.

Before we meet the warlords I thought it best to mention this is going to be collated as an escalation league where we start at a points value and increase over 5 months playing games as we do until we hit 1500 points each.

The Rules

Monthly ChallengesPoints
Playing a Game (Maximum of 2)1
Winning a Game (Maximum of 1)2
Increasing your army by adding more models/units (New Models Maximum of 4)1
Having a fully painted Leader (Maximum of 1)1
Having 1 fully painted troop squad (Maximum of 2)1
Having a fully painted force each month2
Basing all of your models (Pandora)1

So with that we should be getting some good points for the painting and hobby aspect and this means the winner should not be the person who wins all their games.
Battalion

Each month the Power Level / Points goes up, in our gaming group we normally allow both so that you get the most of your army and allows you to build a list super quickly and as a bonus if you’ve got points left over you can then fill them up so you don’t feel hamstrung at any time.

Warhammer 40,000 Patrol Detachment

Note: Unpainted models cannot be used in any games. If you cannot field the maximum power level for a game then you will have to play with an under strength, outnumbered force. You could put a narrative spin on things, putting it down to reinforcements not arriving on time, a heroic last stand, etc.

This is the GW standard of fully painted and is the minimum for our games to have the models count as painted.

Meet the Warlords

Forces of Chaos

Krakendoomcool: I’m going to use the tale of four warlords to finally put brush to ‘new’ Deathguard minis.

I’ve got a grey man backlog of these things and not touched any. Some conversions along the way to add variety to my force would also be nice.

Warbringer: I’m planning to use the next 5 months to curb my hobby magpie tenancies and focus on a single project in small chunks and get it completed and get some much needed games of 40k in all while starting something new.

I’ve finally listened to the voices in my head and turned traitor I’ve been playing collecting and building warhammer 40k for over 20 years now and I’ve never played a Chaos force of any sort, I’ve had a couple of the models but this is my first fall from grace.

My force is going to be my take on a Warband from within The Black Legion. I will try to come up with a name for the force and my warlords and will be taking some inspiration from the Aaron Dembski-Bowden novels. (Which are awesome by the way.)

Planning on kitbashing my HQ’s and making a infantry heavy force, will likely be adding in some armour or some vehicles at some points but they’re not my favourite so will be what suits.

Force of the Imperium

Ritual: I am going to use the Tale of Four Warlords to motivate myself to push on with adding units to the Project Wolfspear army, which I really should get around to giving a proper name some time soon.

The rough story, which I am still fleshing out, is that on a remote Knight World the Lady of the House is concerned about a group of Wulfen who frequent the planet. She worries they’re out of control and potentially heretical. She has called in support from the Inquisition to investigate, and with the local Planetary Defence Force are going to try and keep the Wulfen under control.

On the tabletop for the first round of our Tale of Four Warlords this looks like a mixed army of Wulfen, Inquisition, Adeptus Mechanicus and Imperial Guard. There’s lots of counts-as and conversions in the army so I’m looking forward to getting cracking! It’s going to be a challenge getting towards that 500 point mark with a largely lower-pointed set of models, but should definitely be achievable in the month.

The Xenos Threat

Pandora’s Bits Box: Despite my reservations I’m going to try to use this project as motivation to get a foothold in my largely non existent Genestealer Cults army.

I can easily weave this army into any Narrative that we generate and I think I’m going to start off focusing on some melee heavy units like Aberrants and Genestealers.

In Month 1 I plan on completing 2 units of Aberrants, 1 unit of Genestealers and the Abominant… Hopefully

    1. I’m really looking forward to getting it done I’ve been hectically trying to build models before the 11th and the official start

  1. Thanks for organising this man… Although I’m doubtful I will keep up, all I can do is try. And at the very least I will do more than I would have done otherwise!… Hopefully 😵

    1. Hey no worries I think that’s the whole point. You know me I flit from thing to thing it’s only when I’ve got a deadline I seem to achieve anything.
